Australian Junior and Masters Powerlifting Championships
Powerlifting on the rise!!
Since the restructuring of Powerlifting Australia in late 2006, PA’s competitions, programs and other activities have gone from strength to strength. In particular, competition numbers and depth is growing at a rapid rate. So far this year competitions across the country have all witnessed a boost in participation. The big area of growth continues to be in masters (over 40) competition as evidenced by the stellar turn out at the Australian Masters Games. The development of the sport in smaller capital cities and regional areas has also been pleasing. Areas such as Singleton in NSW , Wynyard in Tasmania, and Mannum in SA and Townsville Qld prove that powerlifting is more than just a sport for the capital cities with strong competition across all divisions. Launceston and Perth have had renewed success of late, thanks in large part to junior development. Perth in particular had its largest participation in years at the recent WA Qualifier, with more meets scheduled for later in the year. In terms of powerlifting strongholds, places like Brisbane continue to attract a large number of new lifters to the many novice competitions held by the University of Queensland Powerlifting Club. The Austrlalian Masters and Juniors Powerlifting Championships will be held at Tropical Bodies on 30 April 1 May 2011.
